Morphing a Dress and Answering a Question

Morphing the dress:
A few months ago I made this dress for my DD. She loved the look of it but felt that it would be more practical if it was sleeveless. Sigh. So I ripped out the sleeves and added the same red binding that I used on the neckline. Here's the before and after of that dress.

And after:

My DD was pleased with the dress morph. And when she's happy, I'm happy.

Answering a question about the Orange Chrysanthemum Maxidress:
In the comment section of my last post, Olga asked

Hi Kathryn, seeing how beautiful your dress turned out, I'm sorry now that I didn't buy that issue of Burda mag. I will try though to find it and ask around at newspapers stands.
I would like to ask you if you modified the yoke, as it looks to me it's cut lower in that picture in the magazine (I hope you understand what i mean :)
And also, how much fabric did you use?

Thanks. Olga

First of all, thank you for the lovely compliment. In fact, my thanks to all of you who commented for your wonderful compliments. You all are so kind.

The dress took 3 yards of fabric. I can't remember the width of the fabric exactly, but I place it at 54 inches from the scraps I have left. The Burda pattern directions say to use 3 3/8 yards of 55 inch fabric. I'm just over 5 feet 1 inch tall, and I usually wear 3 or 4 inch heels, so I shortened the pattern by 2 3/4 inches and it fit just fine on the fabric I had, even allowing for the placement of the flowers the way I wanted. It was just lucky that I had enough fabric for the dress.

I did not modify the yoke at all. On me, the scoop neckline falls a bit higher than shown on the model. It falls about an inch above my cleavage. I cut a size 17 (the smallest size) for that yoke piece, so perhaps a larger size than necessary was used for the model in the magazine.

Thank you all again for making me feel so good about my sewing projects.

I wish you were my mom. I don't suppose adopting someone who is older than you are is in the cards. :-)

Kathryn, thank you so much for your detailed answer! Meanwhile, I asked at the newspapers stand for the magazine and I am waiting for an answer tomorrow, but anyway if they cannot find it, I noticed that the pattern is for sale on the Burdastyle.com site. Yay!
Thanks again!
Olga
