Vogue 8854 Coral Hoodie

Using up the Sweatshirt Fabric Stash

When I wanted to make the Lola Dress (Victory Patterns) a few weeks ago, I had purchased two pieces of sweatshirt fabric, one coral and one spring green. I subsequently decided to make the Lola Dress out of charcoal grey men's sweatshirts so I could have exactly matching ribbing. In an effort to keep the stash at a steady state, I used the coral piece of sweatshirt fabric to make this Vogue 8854 hoodie:

It's a Very Easy Vogue pattern, and it lived up to its name. I made the following modifications:
1. Used size XS through the shoulders and torso and size S in the bust.
2. Pinched out small darts in the front neckline and in the armhole and rotated those darts into side bust darts.
3.  Topstitched all seams.
4.  Coverstitched the hems, including the cuff hems.
4. Used three magnetic bar latch closures to close the front opening.
5. Shortened the back flap by 1.5 inches.

Pattern:
Vogue 8854

Fabric:
Muted Coral Solid Thakoon Cotton Sweatshirt Fabric
from Mood Fabrics:
I prewashed the fabric with detergent with medium water temperature and dried it in the dryer at normal setting. I didn't measure for shrinkage, so I can't say if there was any. The two yards of fabric that I purchased was plenty.

Notions:
Silver magnetic bar closure from Silhouette Patterns, Inc.

I really like this hoodie, because it's a nice riff off the more expected hoodie style, and with the alterations I made, it fits nicely. On my short frame, that super elongated back flap looked sort of goofy, but I liked the look after I had shortened it 1.5 inches, as I mentioned.

I plan on wearing this hoodie with navy, brown, or black slim pants and heels or boots.

Look out spring green sweatshirt fabric, here I come!

This has to be the most stylish hoodie ever! And such a pretty color, too.

I've been eyeing this pattern for some time and you have sold me. Your closures are fabulous. Nothing homemade about this project!

You pinched out darts in the neckline and sleeve and then rotated them! No wonder your clothes look so wonderful.

Love this version. I have this pattern and plan making it up for winter (it's still summer here) weekend wear.

this is a great hoodie! I love that coral colour, I have a huge piece of a linen type fabric in that exact colour in my stash. Trying to find 'just' the right project for it. And, how great are those suspender like closures?? So cool.

Fabulous hoodie! I purchased this pattern when it was released but just couldn't find the right fabric - you've inspired me to relook at the pattern.
