A Simple Knit Top
Sometimes a wonderful color just needs to be showcased simply. The lovely fuchsia color of the Sophia knit seems to go well with the Vogue 8731 pattern. Shaping is provided by the pattern via 4 horizontal tucks at the bustline. I added two vertical fisheye darts to the back for waistline shaping. Here's the result:

Side back view showing additional back shaping with vertical fisheye darts:
Pattern: Vogue 8731,View B (the green one shown below):

Line Drawing. I used View B

Fabric: Sophia RPL (rayon/poly/lycra) knit from House of Fabrics, North Asheville, NC
Thread: Mettler Metrosene Plus in sewing machine, Maxi-lock in serger
Machines: Janome 6600P sewing machine, Elna 905DCX serger, Janome 1000CP coverstitch machine

Things I did differently from the pattern instructions:

1. Added vertical fisheye darts for more shaping
2. Inserted the neckline binding using the excellent method shown in Sarah Veblen's video on the Threads website.

Things I would do differently were I to make this top again:

I love the pattern, because it fit right out of the box and because it was soooo easy. I made it yesterday afternoon while my DH was watching the Masters. He has fond golfing memories and I have a new top for the same time spent. Hmmmm, I wonder who came out ahead on that deal? I'd like to make a summertime sleeveless knit dress with the same pattern in the future.

Kathryn, I love the top, but I can see from the side view that it might have turned out a bit "maternity" without those fisheye darts in the back. That was clever of you to add those. I'm sure I will do the same when I make mine. What a beautiful color. I've never used the Sophia knit, but I have some waiting in the wings.

Beautiful top and love the colour. I agree with Janis about the fisheye darts and find that I need to add them to a lot of my garments.

Beautiful top in one of my favorite colors. Here you've made it up and I haven't even managed to get the pattern out of my cart at Vogue.

I really like it. I got that in the latest BMV sale, and I thought it might look like a tent, too, but liked that front piece. The fisheye darts are a good idea, thanks! I'll copy it! K

Very cute! And that pattern didn't even shake the dust off before you used it. I think a shortsleeve version in dress length will be amazing.

That's a super top! Love the color. It doesn't look as full as indicated by the pattern envelope.

The top came out great. I have been wanting this pattern since it came out. Waiting for the next vogue sale. I will definite put the darts in the back.

Beautiful top, Kathryn! And the Sophia knit fabric is one of my favorites, also. I always purchase a few colors when it goes on sale.

I always appreciate the details included in your reviews and find them so helpful.
