What the MOB wore
First of all, I want to express my deeply-felt thanks to all who commented on my DD's wedding gown in my previous post. You all are so kind and thoughtful. I'm humbled by your words.
In those comments and elsewhere, I've been asked to show what I wore to my DD's wedding.
I wore an ensemble that I made back in 2005 and have only worn once. By the time I was finished with the bride's gown (even though I finished it 5 weeks before the wedding) I was too worn out to start another intense sewing project. Besides, this ensemble was perfect for DD's jewel tone color scheme.

The Groom's mother wore a long navy blue gown. We Moms didn't exactly wear beige but we were pretty good at keeping our mouths shut as the old adage goes. Well, we did bite our tongues on occasion, but that's part of the normal mother/child interaction. It was a fun, happy, glorious wedding.
The simple sheath dress is from the Burda World of Fashion magazine, April 2002, Pattern # 113. It is the same iridescent gold/red fine Italian silk doupioni as the coat. It is embellished with red embroidery and is also underlined with silk organza and lined with gold silk charmeuse.
As you all probably know, Italian silk doupioni fabrics are not as slubby as Indian doupioni fabrics, and their weave is tighter. This fabric resembles silk shantung to my eye, but it was labeled "fine Italian silk doupioni" on the bolts.
I bought the silk doupioni fabrics at Britex in San Francisco, the silk organza underlining from Dharma Trading Company, and the gold silk charmeuse lining from Fabric Mart Fabrics.
The shoes? Brand spankin' new Badgley Mischka red satin heels with red chiffon trim and gold metal and red jewel embellishments:
For the old photos and more information about the ensemble back in the day, go to my Flickr set here. The colors in that set are not as true as the ones shown in this 'blog post. Also, the dress and coat are not as shiny IRL as shown in those Flickr photos. That was one crazy flash attachment back then. I've got a better camera now.

Kathyrn, over the years I have returned to your photo albums many times, and this particular ensemble has always been a favorite. I love the colors of the silk, the embroidery, the cut of the coat. You surely were one smashing mother of the bride!
Beautiful, Kathryn! I have not seen this before, but I bet there will be a run on this pattern in the 2nd hand channels. :) And the pop of red from those shoes, WOW! I'm sure you were stunning!
Gorgeous outfit for the mother of the bride, love the colours and the simple but so elegant and stunning style.
Absolutely beautiful.
I'm glad that you had a perfectly wonderful outfit in the closet to wear after sewing that amazing labor of love. I do remember you making that outfit, and I have to tell you it was those kind of outfits that you shared with us at the old Stitchers World and Artisans Square that greatly influenced my sewing. Love the new shoes! They are a wonderful touch!
I never doubted that your outfit would be stunning and it is ( love the shoes too).
Your daughter's wedding gown is absolutely stunning. How wonderful that you had your outfit "ready to go" - also stunning.
Stunning! And your daughter's gown is beautiful. Thank you for your generosity in sharing your post on the process of making your daughter's gown!
Your outfit is very smart. It is clever of you to have a wedding worthy outfit already made, it must have saved a lot of last minute work that no one needs!
My first time to see this and it is just perfection, perfectly executed, perfectly beautiful, and perfect for the occasion.
I remember this outfit and it is just perfect. Love the shoes...in fact, I think you had the better shoes (don't let DD read this...)
Stunning! I remember that outfit, and remember how much all your gorgeous outfits have inspired me over the years. How nice to have the perfect dress on hand! And the shoes are fabulous too.
Gosh, Kathryn! This ensemble is just gorgeous. So very beautiful.
Stunning Kathryn and a wonderful pairing with the beautiful bride's dress in the photos!
Beautiful ensemble! And I absolutely adore the red shoes!! Your daughter's wedding gown is stunning!
Proof that classic and well made stand the test of time. A beautiful outfit and love your shoes.
