The Mermaid Afghan

I crocheted this mermaid afghan for a 7 year old granddaughter-to-be (my stepdaughter will be marrying a man with two young children). It will be one of her Christmas gifts from us.

Here's a promo photo from the website:

Details:
Pattern: Bulky and Quick Mermaid Blanket by MJ's Off the Hook Designs

Yarns:
Body: Lion Homespun Thick and Quick acrylic super bulky , 4 skeins of Seaglass Stripes
Fin: Lion Homespun Thick and Quick acrylic super bulky, 2 skeins of Waterfall

Crochet Hook: Q for body, P for fin

Size: Child

Because my gauge was significantly different from those in the instructions (I used super bulky yarn instead of the bulky and worsted called for in the instructions) I modified the instructions a lot. I ended up with a child size afghan the same width and 5 inches longer than the dimensions in the instructions. I wanted it a bit longer so it would cover her chest.

This afghan is supposed to be made up in 3-5 hours. It took me about 14 hours to make, but some of that was due to instruction modification by trial and error.

I love the look with this super bulky super fluffy yarn. It's very soft and cuddly and not at all heavy. I hope she likes it!
