A simple hostess gift: embroidered tea towel

Tea towel photos:

Closeup:

Pattern used:

Embroidery Library's Golf Gopher image

Materials:

Robison-Anton embroidery threads

Purchased tea towel blank

Solvy Totally Stable press on, tear off stabilizer

Things I did with this project (that weren't in the pattern instructions):

  1. Added the text using my Embird program
  2. Resized the image to 90% instead of 100% to allow room to add the text.

Things I would do differently were I to repeat this project:

  1. Allow more time! I made this on the slowest stitch setting (400 stitches per minute), so the whole design took 2 hours, 45 minutes to sew out. I didn't have it finished in time to give to the hostess, so I gave her the wine bottle wrapped in tissue paper and ribbon. I'm taking the tea towel to her today.

This is my first embroidery project in over a year, I think. It took a while to reconnect the circuits in my brain and remember all of the appropriate steps to loading the image in Embird, editing it for size and adding the text, then uploading that saved file onto my Janome 300E. I thought I had allowed plenty of time to whip this project out before heading off to the dinner party, but forgot to allow time for my re-learning curve! (sigh) Live and learn.

Many people where we live are golfers, and most golfers have watched the movie Caddyshack time and again. Bill Murray's gopher nemesis is always a source of laughs.

That is one cute cute hostess gift :)
I used to embroider allot, but now I'm the same way, I leave "way" to much time in between embroidery projects :) Happy Easter.

I love it. Everyone I know plays golf, and I'm recommitting to my game this year. I just rejoined my old league, and this would be a great gift to the president at our first get-together! Now I need to recommitt to my embroidery skills.. K

Adorable hostess gift. Did you happen to wear your new dress or was the weather too cool? If so, I know you made a huge hit. On another note, I had NO idea that it took that long to embroider a design. That's forever!

Happy Easter,
Karendee

Great gift. We know tons of golfers even though neither one of us golfs but I can see how it is such a nice, thoughtful gift.

How cute! I'm sure the hostess was thrilled, and she'll make sure everyone sees it.
