Flouncing Around
A couple of weeks ago a cybersewingfriend posted a photo of a really cute scarf she had recently made. It was ruffly and rich in color, two attractive wardrobe criteria, in my mind. I quickly picked her brain about it and before the day was out, two skeins of that yarn were USPSing their way to me from Jimmy Beans Wool. Then another cybersewingfriend posted photos of her scarf made with a similar yarn.
In case you didn't click the link above, I used Knitting Fever's Flounce yarn, in colorway #22 red, fuchsia and burnt orange. There are 32 yards on a single skein.
With my friends' cyberhelp, I worked out how to knit the scarf (size 11 needles, cast on 7 stitches, work in garter stitch until just before you run out of yarn, then bind off.). There's a video for a wider scarf here.
I had trouble getting my scarf to ruffle at first, but that was because I was using the Knitting Fever-recommended size 7 needles. The size 11s work much better. I also ignored Knitting Fever's instructions about ending the scarf--instead of tacking down the loops I cast off as I normally do. And lastly I ignored the Knitting Fever instructions to use 2 skeins because one skein made a pretty long scarf.
My boa-type scarf measures 58 inches long and was made from a single skein of the Flounce yarn.
Since the kit I purchased from Jimmy Beans Wool contained two skeins (what a long scarf that would be!), I'm going to knit up another for a gift. It only takes a couple of hours to knit the entire skein.

Nice, I love the color!
So pretty and what a vibrant color!
Such a fun, almost-instant gratification piece!
Wow love the colours in your scarf and it looks fab with your cardi- I only used one ball of wool so my scarf isn't as long as yours, but I think based on the size of my ball of wool I should have done 1.5 balls but the guy on the stand said you only need one ball!!
I have just bought some different yarn so watch out for the next scarf post.
Great scarf. While in AZ a friend was making a 'potato chip' scarf that was quite similar to yours. I love the color you've chosen.
